Les Gara Early Life and Education
Les Gara was born Leslie Gara into a family of Iraqi-Jewish descent. While growing up things were difficult for him and his family, at just six years of age, his father decided to work late at his office and unfortunately, an armed robber broke into his office and killed Les’s father, leaving him orphaned.
After the incident, Les has to move to a Foster home where he basically grew up. He stayed there for twelve years and left after he graduated from high school. He then went on to further his education at Boston University to study law. Throughout his college years, he had to work and study at the same time in order to meet up with his financial demands, while still keeping his academic ambitions alive.
He always pictured himself as an opportune child despite the challenges he had to face growing up and has stated clearly that he wants that same type of privilege and opportunity for all Alaskans whether born rich or poor, able or disabled.
He worked as an Assistant Attorney General who helps Alaska’s Civil Prosecution of Exxon after the horrible Exxon oil spill in their Valdez branch. Les is married to his beautiful wife Kelly, who is a well-known hospital physical therapist, they have been happily married for 33 years.
Les Gara Political Career
Leslie’s political ambition arose from the deterioration of the once-great state of Alaska. He claims most of the opportunities he enjoyed while growing up in the state are no longer available and he feels obliged to step in and try to make a difference.
In 2020 he claimed that the current governor of Alaska Dunleavy has made life in the state even more difficult, due to some inconsiderate actions taken.
He claims that the governor violated Alaskan law by distributing the million dollars owed to local communities, and forcing them to raise local property taxes to be used to fulfill state obligations.
He also said that the governor cutting out some Universities damaged them and eliminated vocational Education. Les has been working to support Scholls, small-scale businesses, the Alaskan University system, and job training, and hopes to help strengthen the Financial aid plans of the state and help students and employees get more required scholarships if he is voted in.
He announced that all this is part of his agenda and the reason why he would be running in the 2022 gubernatorial election in Alaska, along with Jessica Cook who he elected as his Lieutenant governor.
